Gilbert’s West African Dance class is an intense, fun, challenging, and traditional dance class that is accompanied with live drumming. The class is in its third year of existence, and is for grades 3-5 only. The students also learn about the history of several West African countries because not only are they moving and dancing, but they are also learning the meanings of the dances and movements to provide them with a dash of culture.
The class is a mixture of strengthening exercises and traditional West African movement. Although the class is centered on dance, the students do not need extensive dance experience to participate.
