Chalk on the Walk is a community building event that takes place in the fall on Gilbert’s blacktop and is the culminating event for our art theme “Color My World.”  Hundreds of squares are permanently painted on the playground and each student and staff member selects one of the squares as his or her “canvas.”  Every member of the Gilbert family uses chalk to create their own masterpiece.  It is arts in action as older students assist younger students and parents are involved as well.  Following the event students, teachers, and parents take a “Gallery Walk” and admire all of the artwork.  It enhances respect for the visual arts and is inclusionary at every level.
