Art Integration
Art Integration
Art integration is essential because it brings learning to life—connecting creativity with academics and giving students the tools to thrive.
What it gives to students:
- Deeper understanding of academic content through creative expression
- Opportunities to think critically and solve problems in innovative ways
- Increased engagement and motivation in the classroom
- Confidence to share unique perspectives and ideas
- Collaboration skills by working together on artistic and academic projects
- A sense of connection between schoolwork and the real world
Arts integration, defined by the Kennedy Center as “an approach to teaching in which students construct and demonstrate understanding through an art form. Students engage in a creative process which connects an art form and another subject and meets evolving objectives in both” (Silverstein & Layne, 2010, p. 1). See other definitions, such as Preparing Educators for Arts Integration (Diaz & McKenna, 2017).
